“View from the Kakasülő Gallery

Walking through the regions of Transylvania, the curious eye, looking for beauty and extraordinary
things, recognizes very quickly the small differences hidden in the details. Perhaps we should not dig
too deep to observe the Szekler stubbornness, the archaism of the Transylvanian Plain, the modest
luxury in Kalotaszeg, or even the Gypsy virtuosity. Sóvidék is one of the most colorful spots of
Szeklerland. But what does and what did this region offer to us? The salt mines, the possibilities for
trade, the waters and the spas, the opportunities for tourism, the dynamism of folk dances and the
freshness of the songs, opportunities for entertainment. Through its forests and hills Szeklerland offers
to us space and atmosphere for meditation and unraveling. One of the molecules of this region is the
village called Atyha (Atia), which has been hosting the Kakasülő Gallery since 2014, and in a unique
way, is a home to those eight artists, whom we can rightly consider outstanding figures or even pillars
todays Transylvanian art and cultural life. In the early 1940s, having been hit by a landslide, the village
went down the road of desolation, today counting less than 300 souls. The annual art symposyums and
the existence of the Barn-gallery spice up the life of this endangered community.”
